In the Fall of 2008, Inland Empire Latino Lawyers Association Inc. (IELLA) began assisting clients, both Plaintiffs and Defendents, with small claims cases by educating them about the process and informing them of their legal rights within the small claims court system. IELLA offers a monthly small claims legal aid clinic which is broken down into three parts:
Initial Interview:
We must interview every client to obtain as much background information as possible-- evidence, your declaration, and all relevant documents.
Informative Presentation:
IELLA requires that every client be present to learn about all the steps involved with a small claims suit from start to finish. There will be an open Q&A forum after the presentation to answer general questions.
Consultation with an Attorney:
Clients will have the opportunity to meet one-on-one with an IELLA Volunteer Attorney to further discuss their small claims case and obtain legal advice.
