Frequently Asked Questions

• What type of Cases do you Assist With? IELLA assists with limited civil and family law cases. This includes: divorces/legal separations/annulments, custody/visitation, child support, spousal support, restraining orders, collection lawsuits, evictions and small claims demands. However, if the case is beyond the capabilities of IELLA we reserve the right to refuse service.

• Can I schedule an appointment? No. All clients must attend our clinic and are served on a 1st come 1st served basis.


• Can I attend on behalf of my friend or family member? No. The person seeking legal advice needs to be physically present.


• How do I know I qualify? The qualification process is determined at our legal aid clinics.


• Can you answer legal questions over the phone? No.
  


• Can I bring my children and/or moral support? No. Since you will be expected to stay late, we cannot accommodate your children or moral support.


• Do you only help Latinos? No. We do not consider your ethnicity/ race for our legal services.


• Do I have to speak to an attorney? Yes. It is mandatory that you consult with an attorney.


• Will there be breaks during clinic? Yes. After you have been interviewed, you will have time to eat and use the restroom; there are plenty of local restaurants.


• Do I need to bring an interpreter? We currently provide Spanish interpreters only.


• You have helped me before, do I still need to attend your legal clinic if I need more help? Yes. All previous clients must attend a clinic if your last clinic visit was more than 30 days ago.
  


• Do you assist walk-ins? No.
